- These wood-cutting band saw blades have a flexible back and are made of carbon steel. Flexible back blades absorb shock at high speeds to resist fatigue better than hard back blades. They are best suited for cutting soft wood and making curved cuts. Carbon steel band saw blades are used in wood-cutting band saws that have a higher speed than metal-cutting band saws.
