The gauge is used to verify that external (male) threads do not fall below the minimum acceptable pitch diameter — the NOT GO ring must not pass freely over a conforming thread. Engraved specifications confirm a NOT GO pitch diameter of 0.5589 in, with a specified pitch diameter tolerance of 0.5589 +0.0003 in, a major diameter minimum of 0.6234 in, and a minor diameter of 0.5392 +0.0006 in. The adjustable (split-ring) design, identified by the slotted body and two locking-screw holes visible on the face, allows field re-setting to the set plug; the gauge was set on set plug Sr. No. 8546 and verified OK with a plain check plug at the time of certification.
