The spiral flute geometry evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making this tap especially effective in blind-hole applications in materials such as carbon steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. The GH5 tolerance class specifies a thread limit of +0.0005 in to +0.0025 in over basic pitch diameter, suitable for producing 2B and 3B class-of-fit threads. The square shank drive end is compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine collets sized for 5\/8 in shank taps.
