BCA Federal Mogul 1308-SL 40mm Bore Open Self-Aligning Ball Bearing

This is a new-old-stock BCA Federal-Mogul 1308-SL double-row self-aligning ball bearing, made in the USA and housed in its original Federal-Mogul packaging dated 1997. The 1308 designation follows the ISO/ABMA numbering convention for self-aligning ball bearings: the '1' prefix identifies the self-aligning series, '3' indicates the medium (300) width/load series, and '08' encodes a 40mm bore (8 × 5 = 40mm). The 'SL' suffix denotes an open (unshielded, unsealed) configuration with a snap ring groove in the outer ring, allowing the bearing to be retained axially in a housing using a snap ring. As a double-row self-aligning ball bearing, it accommodates angular misalignment between shaft and housing — typically up to 2–3° — making it well-suited for applications such as agricultural machinery, conveyors, textile equipment, and drive shafts where shaft deflection or housing misalignment is expected. The open design requires external lubrication and is visible in the photos showing the exposed ball complement and nylon/phenolic cage.
