The Clarkson-Osborn Gold Wizard CT79012 is a new 12-24 NC (Unified National Coarse) spiral point plug tap manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) and finished with a TiN (Titanium Nitride) gold coating for increased surface hardness, lubricity, and tool life compared to uncoated HSS. The spiral point (gun tap) design pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge into through-holes, preventing chip packing and enabling higher feed rates in production environments. This plug-style chamfer (3–5 thread taper) allows the tap to start and cut in a single operation, making it well-suited for CNC tapping, vertical machining centers, and hand tapping of through-holes in steel, aluminum, cast iron, and similar machinable materials. The 12-24 NC thread form conforms to ANSI/ASME B1.1 Unified Inch screw thread standards; the recommended tap drill size for 75% thread engagement is a #16 drill (0.177 in). Imported by Clarkson-Osborn under the Gold Wizard brand line, this tap ships new in its original red plastic case.
