The Cutting Tool Engineers T1156 is a new solid carbide (SC) straight-flute drill measuring 12.5 mm cutting diameter with a 16 mm shank diameter and 135 mm overall length, as encoded in the part number "12.5MM X 16 X 135MM." The tool features a straight (non-helical) flute geometry, which provides maximum rigidity and positive chip control in short-chipping materials such as cast iron, hardened steels, composites, and non-ferrous alloys where conventional spiral flutes tend to pack chips. It is coated with AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride), a PVD hard coating that delivers a surface hardness exceeding 3,000 HV, high-temperature oxidation resistance up to ~900°C, and excellent lubricity, significantly extending tool life at elevated cutting speeds compared to uncoated carbide. The black oxide finish on the shank is consistent with CTE's standard production labeling, and the tool ships in its original plastic case dated 7/30/2019, confirming it is an unused, new-old-stock item. The 16 mm cylindrical shank is compatible with standard ER, hydraulic, shrink-fit, and Weldon-flat toolholders bored to 16 mm.
