This is a new Guhring Powertap 4409 series spiral flute machine tap in 1/4-28 UNF, H5 tolerance class, manufactured from HSS-E (cobalt-alloyed high-speed steel, M35 grade) for enhanced wear resistance and heat resistance compared to standard HSS. The tap features Guhring's proprietary "Goldring" surface treatment — a gold-colored oxide ring at the shank/flute transition that serves as a brand identification mark — combined with a black oxide (steam-tempered) finish on the body, which improves lubrication retention and corrosion resistance. The spiral flute geometry (right-hand helix) is designed for through-hole tapping, pulling chips up and out of the hole; it is suited for use in CNC machining centers, tapping machines, and drill presses on materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
