The GWS Tool Group 120947 is a new solid carbide 5-flute roughing end mill measuring 1/4 in cutting diameter x 1/4 in shank diameter x 3/4 in length of cut x 2-1/2 in overall length, with a 0.010 in corner radius and a variable helix design (nominally 50°) to suppress chatter and improve chip evacuation during aggressive material removal. The tool features a NACo (nanocomposite aluminum-chromium nitride) coating, which provides elevated hardness, oxidation resistance up to approximately 900°C, and reduced friction, making it well-suited for ferrous materials including alloy steels, tool steels, and hardened steels. The center-cutting end geometry and chip-breaker style flute form on a rougher profile allow high metal removal rates while controlling cutting forces; the 1/4 in straight shank is compatible with standard ER11, ER16, or ER20 collet chucks and equivalent 1/4 in end mill holders.
