Hertel 59898395 1-3/4-12 H6 6-Flute HSS Hand Plug Tap

This is a new Hertel hand plug tap in 1-3/4"-12 UNF (Unified Fine) thread, manufactured in the USA from high-speed steel (HSS) with a black oxide finish for corrosion resistance and reduced friction during cutting. The plug chamfer geometry (7–10 threads of taper lead) makes this tap suitable for through-holes and deep blind holes where a gradual thread start is acceptable, and the 6-flute design provides additional cutting edges and improved chip load distribution compared to standard 4-flute taps — particularly beneficial in softer, free-machining materials such as aluminum, brass, and mild steel. The H6 pitch diameter limit (0.0005"–0.0060" oversize from basic pitch diameter) is designed to produce class 2B or 3B fits and provides clearance for thread locking compounds or plating allowances when specified. Driven by a square shank in a standard tap wrench or appropriate machine holder, this tap is suited for hand tapping or low-speed machine tapping in production and maintenance environments.
