The Irwin 3018002 is a new, 29-piece cobalt alloy steel (M35) twist drill bit set covering fractional sizes 1/16 in through 1/2 in (1.5 mm–12.7 mm) in 1/64 in increments, stored in a heavy-duty metal index case with three removable blue plastic cartridges and a tap & drill selection chart inside the lid. Each bit features Irwin's proprietary split-point tip geometry, which starts on contact without center-punching and reduces walking on hard or smooth surfaces; the cobalt alloy construction (8% Co M35-grade HSS) provides heat resistance up to approximately 1,100 °F, making the set suited for drilling stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, and other hard or abrasive metals. The bits carry a 135° split-point angle and are manufactured to ANSI standards with a straight round shank compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks; the metal case features a protective rubber over-molded bumper and a locking lid mechanism for job-site durability.
