The Kennametal 38486312 is a new, straight-flute spiral-point (SPPT) bottoming tap designed to cut M10x1.5 metric coarse threads to the bottom of blind holes. Manufactured in the USA to D8 tolerance class (pitch diameter limits per ASME B94.9, covering the +3 to +5 oversize range above basic pitch diameter), it features 3 flutes in HSS-E (cobalt-alloyed high-speed steel, M35-equivalent) for enhanced heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS. The spiral-point (gun-nose) geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well-suited for through-holes and shallow blind holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials; the bottoming chamfer (1–1.5 thread chamfer lead) maximizes thread depth in blind applications. Right-hand cut, right-hand spiral point; shank style is KSP39 as marked on the label, indicating a standard square-drive shank compatible with conventional tap holders and CNC tapping chucks accepting M10-class tap shanks.
