The M.A. Ford Twister® XD 5X Regular Drill (Tool No. 2XDSR0469A, EDP 22241) is a solid carbide twist drill ground to 3/64 in (0.046875 in / ~1.191 mm) diameter with a 5× diameter flute-length-to-diameter ratio designed for deep-hole drilling in a regular (jobber-style) shank configuration. The drill carries M.A. Ford's proprietary ALtima® coating — a multilayer AlTiN-family PVD coating engineered for elevated hot hardness and oxidation resistance — which extends tool life significantly versus uncoated or TiN-coated counterparts in ferrous and hardened materials up to approximately 45 HRC. The Twister XD geometry features a split-point web thinning for self-centering entry without a pilot hole, aggressive chip evacuation flutes, and a parabolic flute form that reduces thrust force and heat buildup in deep-hole drilling applications such as CNC machining centers, drill presses, and high-speed VMCs. Made in the USA, this drill is supplied new in its original M.A. Ford plastic case and is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened alloys.
