The Merit PowerFlex 99760 (KD3633-1) is a 7-inch (178 mm) Type 27 flat-profile flap disc constructed with zirconia alumina (ZYR) abrasive cloth laminated over a rigid fiberglass-reinforced fiber backing plate, supplied new in a factory box of 10 discs. The 40-grit (040ZYR) designation indicates a coarse cut optimized for aggressive stock removal, weld blending, slag removal, and edge grinding on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals. The integrated 5/8-11 UNC threaded hub (R801 designation indicating a depressed-center hub with steel insert) mounts directly to standard 7-inch angle grinders without a separate backing pad, and the disc is rated to a maximum of 8,600 RPM. Zirconia alumina grain self-sharpens under pressure, providing extended disc life and consistent cut rate versus standard aluminum oxide — making this disc well-suited for sustained heavy-duty production grinding operations.
