The Micro 100 ASM-312-5 is a new, USA-made solid submicron carbide square end mill from the "Advanced" (ASM) series, ground to a 3/8 in (0.3125 in) cutting diameter with a 3/8 in straight shank and featuring 5 flutes for superior surface finish and increased feed rates versus 4-flute designs. The AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) coating — indicated by the dark finish visible in the product photo — provides hardness up to ~3,300 HV and oxidation resistance to approximately 1,600 °F, making the tool well-suited for dry or semi-dry machining of hardened steels, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and superalloys. Per Micro 100's published catalog data for the ASM-312-5, the tool has a 1-1/16 in length of cut and a 3 in overall length, with a 45° helix angle optimized for chip evacuation and vibration damping in high-performance CNC milling operations. This end mill is compatible with standard 3/8 in ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders.
