The part number decodes as follows: SEM = Square End Mill, 375 = 3/8 in (0.375 in) cutting diameter, 02 = 2 flutes; the "X" suffix on the packaging label (SEM-375-02X) denotes the AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) PVD coating visible as the dark black-violet finish on the tool, which provides elevated hardness (~3200 HV), oxidation resistance up to ~1470°F, and reduced friction for dry or near-dry machining.
