The Micro 100 SHRM-060-4X is a new, USA-made solid submicron carbide 4-flute square-end roughing end mill with a 3/16 in (0.060 in radius) cutting diameter and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, evidenced by the uniform matte-black finish across both the flute and shank regions. The "SH" prefix in the part number denotes Micro 100's "Super Hard" submicron carbide substrate, "RM" indicates roughing mill geometry (serrated/nicked flutes for chip segmentation and reduced cutting forces), "060" encodes the 0.060 in cutting radius (3/16 in diameter), "4" specifies four flutes, and "X" designates the extended-length configuration with a 3/16 in shank diameter. The serrated chip-breaker geometry on each flute reduces radial cutting forces and allows aggressive material removal rates in steels, alloy steels, stainless, and hardened materials up to approximately 45 HRC, while the AlTiN coating provides high oxidation resistance (stable to ~1472 °F / 800 °C) and excellent lubricity for dry or MQL machining. This tool accepts standard 3/16 in collets (ER11, ER16, or equivalent) and is suited for roughing passes on CNC machining centers where chip-thinning and vibration reduction are priorities.
