The Micro 100 VHMM-040-5K is a new, USA-made solid submicron-grain "Super Carbide" 5-flute variable-helix corner-radius end mill from the VHMM (Variable Helix Multi-Flute Milling) series, designed for high-efficiency milling of hardened steels and difficult alloys. Decoding the part number: VHMM = Variable Helix Multi-Flute Mill, 040 = 0.040 in (1/8 in shank / cutting diameter), 5 = 5 flutes, K = TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating — a hard, low-friction, dark/black coating optimized for dry milling and non-ferrous/hardened steel applications; the black appearance visible in photos confirms the TiB2 coating. The 5-flute variable-helix geometry suppresses chatter harmonics and increases metal removal rates versus standard equal-helix designs, while the corner radius (per the VHMM-series spec) adds edge strength and reduces corner chipping in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. This tool accepts standard 1/8 in collet or end mill holders (ER11, ER16, or equivalent) and is manufactured in Boise, Idaho to Micro 100's tight tolerances under their "Super Carbide" submicron-grain substrate standard.
