The Micro 100 VLR-312-4X is a new, solid submicron-grain carbide variable-helix end mill from the VLR series, manufactured in the USA and branded "Super Carbide." The part number decodes as follows: VLR = Variable helix, Long reach; 312 = 5/16 in (0.3125 in) cutting diameter; 4 = 4 flutes; X = AlTiN (Extreme) coating, indicated by the dark black/charcoal finish visible in the photos. The variable helix geometry suppresses chatter and harmonics during aggressive milling of hardened steels, stainless steels, tool steels, and high-temp alloys. The long-reach neck design allows deep-cavity and tall-wall milling while the reduced-neck diameter below the shank provides clearance; the AlTiN coating provides hardness up to ~3,300 HV and thermal stability to approximately 1,470 °F (800 °C), extending tool life in dry or minimum-quantity lubrication (MQL) cutting conditions. Compatible with standard 3/8 in straight-shank toolholders including collet chucks, end-mill holders, and shrink-fit holders.
