This is a new Nachi List 601 taper shank drill, 2-13/16 in diameter with a Morse Taper #5 (MT5) shank, manufactured in Japan from Nachi HSS-BJ grade high-speed steel — a premium Japanese-standard HSS alloy (roughly equivalent to M2/M7) known for consistent hardness and wear resistance across general-purpose drilling applications. The drill features a black oxide (BL) steam-temper finish for corrosion resistance and reduced friction, a split-point geometry for reduced thrust and self-centering capability, and a standard helix angle suited for a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The MT5 taper shank seats directly into drill press spindles, radial arm drill presses, boring mills, and lathes equipped with a #5 Morse Taper socket, with a tang drive for positive torque transmission and easy drift removal. At 2-13/16 in (2.8125 in / 71.44 mm), this is a large-diameter production drill intended for heavy-duty hole-making in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar structural materials where a high-quality, full-size new drill is required.
