The OSG HP258-1874 is a new, solid carbide screw machine (stub length) drill from the Hy-Pro Carb series, ground to a 4.76 mm (3/16 in) diameter with a taper point geometry and a straight shank for use in chucks, collets, and quick-change toolholders. The "258" series designation in OSG's HP line identifies this as a stub-length, two-flute, solid carbide drill engineered for short, rigid setups common in CNC machining centers, screw machines, and drill presses where minimal overhang is required. The dark blue-black iridescent surface finish visible in the photos is consistent with OSG's TiAlN-based (or multi-layer AlTiN) PVD coating applied to the HP258 series, which provides elevated hardness and oxidation resistance for drilling steel, stainless, and cast iron at higher speeds and feeds compared to uncoated or HSS tooling. Made in the USA as stamped on the shank, this drill is supplied in its original OSG plastic tube packaging and is unused.
