The Sandvik Coromant QD-NJ-0500-0002-CM 1145 is a new CoroCut QD double-ended carbide grooving insert, sold in the original factory tray of 10 pieces. Decoding the part number: QD = CoroCut QD insert system; NJ = insert geometry/chipbreaker style (neutral, J-chipbreaker profile for medium chip control); 0500 = 5.00 mm cutting width; 0002 = 0.2 mm corner radius; CM 1145 = uncoated cermet grade optimized for finishing and semi-finishing of steel (P), stainless steel (M), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Grade CM 1145 is a cermet grade characterized by its smooth, hard surface (no PVD/CVD coating layer) visible as the pink/rose-colored substrate seen in the photos, delivering superior surface finish and edge sharpness for light finishing cuts. Per the label data, recommended cutting parameters include: for steel (P, 175 HB) Vc = 430 sfm (130 m/min) and fn = 0.005 in/r; for stainless steel (M, 200 HB) Vc = 325 sfm (100 m/min); for superalloys (S, 350 HB) Vc = 50 sfm (16 m/min); these inserts seat in CoroCut QD toolholders accepting the NJ seat style.
