The Sandvik Coromant SCMT 09T308-SMC 1115 is a new, indexable carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 product family, designed for internal and external turning of stainless steel (ISO S — heat-resistant superalloys) at up to 350 HB hardness. Decoding the ISO designation: S = 90° square shape, C = 7° clearance angle, M = medium tolerance class (±0.05–0.13 mm), T = with hole and chipbreaker, 09T3 = 9.525 mm (3/8 in) inscribed circle / 3.97 mm thickness, 08 = 0.8 mm nose radius, SMC = Sandvik's positive SMC chipbreaker geometry optimized for light-to-medium finishing cuts on stainless and superalloys. Grade 1115 is a PVD-coated cemented carbide with a TiAlN-based coating (appearing dark brown/bronze in the photos), offering excellent toughness and thermal resistance for interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert is compatible with CoroTurn 107 toolholders using the SCLC/SCMC/STFC boring bar and external turning holder designations that accept SCMT 09T3 inserts. Recommended cutting data per the package label: depth of cut 2 mm (0.25–3 mm range), feed 0.21 mm/rev (0.1–0.31 mm/rev range), cutting speed 55 m/min / 185 sfm (range 65–40 m/min / 210–135 sfm) for the S material group at 350 HB. Each factory-sealed tray contains 10 inserts, made in Sweden.
