The Sandvik Coromant SPKN 1203 EDR 3040 is a new, uncoated carbide milling insert designed for use in the ModulMill face milling system. Grade 3040 is a Sandvik Coromant cemented carbide grade engineered for milling of cast iron (ISO K), steel (ISO P), and hardened materials (ISO H), offering broad material application range in a single grade. The insert carries the SPKN geometry designation: S = square shape (90° included angle), P = 11° clearance angle, K = tolerance class, N = no chipbreaker (flat top), with 12 mm inscribed circle, 03 mm thickness, E = honed cutting edge, D = special geometry, R = right-hand cutting configuration. Per the label data, recommended cutting parameters for cast iron (K2.2.C.UT, 245 HB) are fz 0.18 mm (.007 in), vc 185 m/min (600 sfm); for steel (P2.1.Z.AN, 175 HB) fz 0.18 mm (.007 in), vc 240 m/min (780 sfm); and for hardened steel (H1.3.Z.HA, 60 HRC) fz 0.18 mm (.007 in), vc 35 m/min (115 sfm). The package contains 10 inserts (Sandvik order code 5751209, catalog number 54941869), manufactured in Japan, and is compatible with Sandvik Coromant ModulMill face milling toolholders designed for SPKN 1203 insert seats.
