The Sandvik Coromant TPMR 16 03 08-53 5015 (ANSI equivalent: TPMR 322-53) is a new, uncoated triangular (trigon) carbide turning insert in grade 5015, a fine-grained cemented carbide grade optimized for machining cast iron and hardened materials at high cutting speeds. Decoded per ISO 1832: T = triangular 60° shape, P = 11° clearance angle, M = ±0.08/±0.05 mm tolerance class, R = no hole/no chipbreaker (flat top), 16 = 16 mm inscribed circle, 03 = 3.18 mm thickness, 08 = 0.8 mm nose radius, -53 = Sandvik's proprietary chipbreaker/geometry designation. The insert carries ISO material applicability across P, M, K, N, S, and H work material groups as shown on the box label, making it suitable for turning steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and hardened materials; primary strength lies in the K (cast iron) and H (hardened) groups for which grade 5015 is specifically formulated.
