Slip Plate No. 1 Heavy Duty is the original dry film graphite lubricant manufactured by Asbury Carbons (Asbury, NJ), sold new in a 1 U.S. gallon (3.785 L) pail with bail handle. No. 1 is the highest-graphite-content grade in the Slip Plate line, formulated for maximum lubricity in heavy-duty applications where other grades are insufficient; the carrier is petroleum distillates, which allows brush, roller, or dip application to clean metal, wood, or most plastic surfaces. Once applied, the coating dries to a hard, tough, burnishable, non-stick graphite film in approximately 60 minutes at 70°F (21.1°C), with a 24-hour cure recommended before heavy use; the cured film operates across a temperature range of approximately -17°F to 400°F and resists the accumulation of dirt, dust, water, snow, and grit. Confirmed industrial and agricultural applications listed on the label include conveyor pipes and chutes, grain bins, gravity bins and trailers, combines, fertilizer spreaders, metal slides and guides, snowplow blades, fork lifts, corn picker heads, and garage door tracks, among others; it is not compatible with subsequent oil or grease application, as this degrades the bonded film.
