Sowa M16x2 D7 HSSE-V3 R-40 Spiral Flute Tap

This is a new Sowa M16 x 2.0 spiral flute tap, catalog number 123669, manufactured in Japan to DIN 376 D7 tolerance standards. The tap is constructed from HSSE-V3 (cobalt high-speed steel, ~8–10% Co), which provides significantly enhanced red-hardness and wear resistance over standard HSS, making it well-suited for threading stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and other difficult-to-machine materials. The spiral (helical) flute geometry — designated R-40, indicating a 40° helix angle — efficiently evacuates chips upward and out of the hole, making this tap optimized for blind-hole threading operations. The D7 tolerance class produces a 6H thread fit per ISO 965, the standard metric thread tolerance for general-purpose fastener applications. This tap accepts standard M16 square-drive tap wrenches and machine tap holders with appropriate collet or chuck sized for its shank diameter.
