The SPI 75-971-2 is a new Size 4 quick-change torque tap holder (tapping adapter) from SPI's Tapmaster line, bearing patent number 4284370, as stamped on the body and confirmed by the original SPI-branded box label reading "Q-C S4 TORQUE TAP HLDR 75-971-2." This unit is a synchronous/tension-compression floating tapping chuck insert designed for use with compatible Size 4 quick-change tapping chuck bodies on CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and tapping machines; the knurled outer ring allows tool-free tap collet installation and removal. The internal square drive bore (visible in the bottom-view photo) accepts standard tap collets for the Size 4 series, transmitting drive torque through the positive engagement mechanism while the built-in torque-limiting clutch protects taps from breakage under overload conditions. The body is oxide-blackened alloy steel with a precision-ground shank interface and retaining groove for quick-change snap-in engagement with the parent chuck body. Condition is new, supplied in the original SPI packaging.
