The Starrett 3805D is a new digital Shore D durometer designed to measure the hardness of harder polymers, hard rubber, rigid plastics, and similar semi-rigid to rigid materials per ASTM D2240 Type D methodology. The instrument features a truncated cone indenter (30° cone with flat tip) driven by a calibrated spring force of 44.5 N (10 lbf), an LCD digital display, and three front-panel controls — H (hold), OFF/ON, and ZERO — for straightforward one-handed operation. Measurement range is 0–100 Shore D with 0.5-point resolution, and the hold function captures peak readings for accurate single-person testing on production floors or lab environments. The unit ships new in Starrett's red molded storage case with foam insert and the original instruction manual, as confirmed visible in the photos; the outer Starrett retail box bears UPC 049659020595.
