Starrett 486P-5 4-5 in 0.0001 in Blade Outside Micrometer

The Starrett 486P-5 is a new mechanical blade outside micrometer covering a 4–5 inch measurement range, manufactured by The L.S. Starrett Company in Athol, MA USA and backed by a signed inspection certificate included in the case. The blade-style anvil and spindle — flat, narrow rectangular contacts rather than standard cylindrical faces — allow measurement of narrow slots, keyways, grooves, O-ring grooves, and recessed features inaccessible to a conventional outside micrometer. The instrument reads to 0.0001 in graduation via a vernier thimble scale, with a published accuracy of ±0.0001 in (±0.002 mm), and features a satin-chrome finished sleeve, knurled thimble, and friction thimble (ratchet-stop) for consistent measuring pressure. The large cast steel frame has a thermal insulating coating to minimize heat transfer from the operator's hand, and the tool ships complete in Starrett's standard red fitted case with foam insert, spanner wrench, and documentation as shown in the photos.
