The Starrett 823BZ is a new, American-made tubular inside micrometer set covering a continuous measurement range of 1-1/2 to 12 inches (40–300 mm on the companion metric model 823MB) with a 0.001 in graduation and a stated accuracy of ±0.0001 in. The set uses a single micrometer head with 1/2 in (13 mm) of thimble travel and a friction thimble for consistent measuring pressure; hardened extension rods of various lengths thread together to reach the full 12 in range as documented on the assembly chart included with the set. The kit ships in Starrett's signature red leatherette-covered metal case with foam cutouts, includes an inspection certificate (inspector #2527 visible in the photo), and carries Starrett EDP 53052. Typical applications include measuring bores, cylinder liners, housings, and any large-diameter internal feature where a conventional inside micrometer cannot reach, and the modular rod system eliminates the need for multiple dedicated tools across the 1.5–12 in range.
