Starrett 98-8 8" 50442 0.005"/10" Cast Iron Base Precision Machinist Level

The Starrett No. 98-8 (EDP 50442) is a new precision machinist's level featuring a cylindrical, knurled aluminum body with a high-sensitivity vial and a ground cast iron base sized 8 inches in length. The main vial sensitivity is 0.005 in/ft (0.05 mm/10 cm), meaning one graduation represents 0.005" of rise per foot of run — a standard specification for machine tool alignment work such as leveling lathes, mills, surface plates, and other production equipment. The cast iron base measures 8" long x 1-5/16" wide x 1-5/8" high with a flatness tolerance of 1/64", providing a stable, wear-resistant reference surface. The cylindrical vial body can be rotated 360° and locked via the knurled end adjusters, allowing the level to be used horizontally, vertically, or at any angle, and a secondary cross-test vial (visible in photos at the base) provides a plumb check.
