The Sumitomo Electric MDW03680HGS5S is a new, solid carbide GS Style-Drill with a 0.3680" (9.347 mm) cutting diameter and a 5xD flute length-to-diameter ratio, designed for deep-hole drilling applications in steel, cast iron, and stainless steel workpiece materials. The drill is manufactured in ACX70 carbide grade — Sumitomo's ultra-fine grain carbide substrate engineered for high wear resistance and toughness — and carries a dark TiAlN-based multilayer PVD coating (visible in photos as the uniform dark blue-black finish on the fluted section), which significantly extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds and temperatures. The GS Style geometry features a self-centering split-point web thinning and a precision-ground margin for excellent hole quality, minimizing the need for secondary reaming operations; it is designed for use in CNC machining centers with through-spindle coolant capability, compatible with straight shank toolholders (ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders) sized to accept the drill's cylindrical straight shank.
