This is a new Sumitomo SMDT06820MTL replaceable drill tip in grade ACX70, supplied in its original inspected tip case. The part number encodes a 6.82 mm cutting diameter (06820) with MTL geometry, and the tip has a dark PVD-type coating with two cutting lips, two coolant-through holes and a serrated periphery. It is an indexable-tip style drill head for use in Sumitomo Multi Drill (SMD) tip-change drill bodies, where it is clamped by the holder's screw. The tip is used for drilling holes in metal on CNC machines, lathes and machining centers, and the head can be replaced without replacing the drill body.
