Yamawa ZELX SS PO GH3 1/2-13 UNC Spiral Point Machine Tap

This is a new Yamawa ZELX SS PO GH3 spiral point (gun) tap in 1/2-13 UNC, manufactured from high-speed steel with a black oxide (steam oxide) surface treatment that reduces friction and improves chip flow during through-hole tapping operations. The ZELX SS designation identifies this as Yamawa's stainless-steel-optimized spiral point series, engineered with geometry specifically suited for tapping austenitic and other work-hardening stainless steels, as well as mild steels and aluminum. PO denotes the plug (starter) chamfer style, with approximately 3–5 threads of lead, enabling smooth entry into pre-drilled through holes; the GH3 pitch diameter tolerance class corresponds to a H3 ground thread limit (0.0005–0.0015 in over basic pitch diameter), producing Class 2B and 3B fits per ASME B1.1. The square shank is compatible with standard 1/2-in tap holders, floating tap holders, and rigid machine tapping attachments on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines.
